He advises clients on significant regulatory and accounting changes. He has also advised companies on financial, business, tax and VAT compliance

He has experience with Creative Industries tax reliefs such as:

• Film and Theatre tax relief.
• Research and Development tax relief.
• Patent Box tax relief.

He has managed the compliance requirements for companies issuing shares under the two venture capital schemes:

• Enterprise Investment Scheme.
• Seed Enterprise Investment Scheme.

Achievements

• Charitable Company.
  • Advised the Finance team on how to set up their accounts system. They are now able to track the spending and balance of each restricted fund.
• Charity Retail Shop
  • Advised the shop on the setting up of a retail gift aid scheme.
  • He also advised the client to register for VAT to reclaim VAT – whilst not being affected by VAT on the sale of donated goods.
  • Resulting in higher gift aid donations.
• Arts Charity 1
  • He advised the charity Finance team on how to become Charities SORP compliant and how to transition from the Charities SORP (FRSSE 2015) to Charities SORP (FRS 102).
  • Advised the Finance Committee on how to claim theatre tax relief.
• Arts Charity 2
  • He advised and prepared claims for Theatre Tax Relief for loss-making theatrical productions which resulted in a large cash payment from HMRC.
• Company Developing Film Projects (SEIS)
  • His team worked with our client and a tax barrister to address HMRC’s argument that the Company did not qualify for Seed Enterprise Investment Scheme (SEIS).
  • The client successfully obtained HMRC’s approval for a SEIS investment – and raised substantial funds from investors.

Personal

In his spare time, volunteers for various charities because he passionately believes in helping others to help themselves. He likes to listen to world music. His hobbies include athletics, travelling and reading about world affairs.
